What is a precinct caucus?
It is the first in a series of meetings where the DFL can endorse candidates and select delegates.

Become a Delegate

One of the best ways you can support Huldah is by becoming a delegate for Huldah for the at the Senate District 38 DFL Convention on March 7th, and supporting her bid for the DFL Endorsement. Receiving the DFL Endorsement will help unite the Democratic Party around Huldah as we progress through the election cycle. It can further help get the word out about Huldah, and assist in turnout as the election gets closer. However, an endorsement will take a vote of 60% of delegates.
The good news: One of those delegates could be YOU!
The process begins at SD38’s precinct caucuses on February 3rd at Park Center High School at 7pm.
WHO CAN BE A DELEGATE

If you are a resident of that precinct, will be at least 18 years old as of November 5, 2026, you consider yourself a member of the DFL party, not an active member of another party, and agree with the DFL principles (as stated in the DFL bylaws), you are eligible to run to be a delegate for the Senate District convention representing your precinct.

A person who will be 16 years old as of November 5, 2026, and otherwise meets the above criteria may participate in caucus business (but not run for any delegate or officer position).
WHAT TO EXPECT AT PRECINCT CAUCUSES

Expect an equivalent to a neighborhood meeting. Caucus-goers file into classrooms that correspond with their precinct number. Someone will be chosen to run the meeting itself. During the meeting, precinct officers, including the Precinct Chair and Vice Chair, will be selected. You will hear platform resolutions, which are issues and positions to be placed on the DFL party platform. You will also likely hear from candidates seeking an endorsement at a Senate District, County, Congressional District, City, or State Convention (or even representatives from a Presidential Campaign seeking endorsements at the National Convention). These individuals will be seeking your votes as delegates for their endorsement.
There will also be elections for delegates to the Senate District 38 DFL convention. In many precincts, there will be enough delegate spots to the Senate District convention for all eligible caucus-goers that want them. This means that being a delegate only requires signing up. In some precincts, there may not be enough delegate spots for those who want them, at which point delegates will then be elected by a vote of the caucus goers. Many seek to get elected to the Senate District Convention to support a specific candidate there. Many seek to get elected as a delegate to the Senate District Convention to have a chance to become a State Delegate (which votes as delegates at the Congressional District candidates, helping to decide who the DFL endorses for US House, and the State Convention, helping to decide who becomes National Delegates). If your precinct goes to a delegate election, prepare a statement of about 30 seconds as to why you want to be a delegate.
Note also, many people who are not elected to be a delegate to the Senate District Convention, can be selected as an alternate. If you are selected as an alternate, make sure to attend the Senate District Convention on March 7. Many alternates get promoted to delegates, as there are often delegates who are unable to attend.

There will also be a separate election for county delegates to go to the Hennepin County DFL Convention (which will seek to endorse candidates for County Commissioner). Note that running for County Convention delegate is not the same as running for delegate to the Senate District Convention.
WHAT IF I CAN’T MAKE THE CAUCUS BUT STILL WANT TO BE A DELEGATE AT THE CONVENTION

Fear not! There is still a way to submit your name to be a delegate if you wish. The DFL has provided a Non-Attendee form. Click the link below and fill it out. Make sure you indicate that you want to be a delegate for Huldah. Then, return the form to the DFL Senate District Chair before January 31. At caucuses, your form will be considered along with the eligible live caucus-goers for delegate. This means that if there are more delegate spots than people who want them, the caucus chair will sign you up. If there are fewer delegate spots than people in the precinct who want them, your form will be considered along with forms and live attendees for election to be a delegate.
Whether by attending the caucus in person, or submitting an non-attendee form, getting selected to be a delegate for Huldah for the SD38 convention on March 7th can be a great way to support her, as this campaign progresses through the election cycle.

We are stronger together. Getting the endorsement is a great way to unite the DFL party around Huldah!!
